Alpine Hills Adventure Park & Golf Center
Alpine Hills Adventure Park & Golf Center, owned by the Rockford Park District and located in Rockford, Illinois, will be transformed from a golf course facility into a year-round adventure park that will be a “must see” destination attracting visitors from across the Midwest. Gateway Parks is in final negotiations to design, construct, and operate a snow park and toboggan run. A mountain bike course is also being considered for future development. The Rockford Park District was founded in 1909 and has grown from an initial 77 acres of land to 4,896 acres of park and recreation lands, covering 125 square miles. The Rockford Park District has been awarded the prestigious National Gold Medal Award for Excellence in Park and Recreation from the National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA) three times, with the most recent award received in 2012. The Gold Medal Award honors park and recreation agencies throughout the United States that demonstrate excellence in long‐range planning, resource management, volunteerism, environmental stewardship, program development, professional development, and agency recognition. The District is also a Distinguished Agency, professionally accredited for high standards and superior services. In 2012, over 9.7 million residents and visitors used Park District recreational facilities, programs, and parks.
